Meet Your Master Coach

sharron

Dr. Sharron Jenkins is not just your typical health professional; she is a true expert in her field. She is a Ph.D. Biophysical Chemist and held a National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Certification as a Nutrition Coach for years. She has an extensive research background in the chemistry of the human body as it relates to health, disease, and metabolic processes.  After completing her undergraduate degree in Chemistry from North Carolina A&T State University, Dr. Jenkins went on to earn her Ph.D. in Chemistry with a major in Biophysical Chemistry from Loyola University of Chicago. She has an extensive list of reputable publications and spent her twenties researching the oxidative degradation of sickle hemoglobin in patients with Sickle Cell Disease. From 2008-2011, she served as a Co-Pi and campus Director of a multi-million dollar NSF program at Purdue University North Central (now Purdue Northwest).  Her academic roles have ranged from tenured faculty at Purdue Central University to a full professor of chemistry at an institution in Georgia, bringing over 25 years of experience in biochemical research and higher education.  Beyond academia, Dr. Jenkins has been an advocate for public health. She has been actively involved in HIV/AIDS prevention initiatives and has led successful HIV-testing campaigns, making substantial contributions to public health both domestically and internationally.

In addition to her accomplishments in academia, Dr. Jenkins is also the visionary founder and CEO of IRISE Research and Discovery Science (IRISE-RDS). This groundbreaking STEM initiative is unique in its commitment to merging storytelling with scientific research. Dr. Jenkins writes children's storybooks that weave in actual "health-related" research projects. These stories then serve as an entry point to engage young minds in authentic, hands-on scientific research projects.  Partnering with K-12 teachers, church leaders, and community centers, IRISE-RDS aims to enrich science and math curricula by bringing real-world research directly into classrooms and communities.

And yet, the sum of Dr. Jenkins is more than her academic and professional achievements. Sharron, a gifted musician and artist, infuses her soul into her work. Music is her "calling," her "gift," and her "solace." Whether she's conducting interviews on television, captivating audiences with her singing, facilitating health and music workshops, or authoring books paired with musical recordings, her exceptional dual career has made her one of the most versatile and influential figures in both the scientific and artistic realms.  Dr. Jenkins often states, "Biophysics is my training, but music is my calling.  Earlier in her career, Dr. Jenkins was featured in Jet Magazine and various televised programs, including a brief impromptu appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show in the 1990s. Her CMG Worldwide licensed single and vocal rendition of Maya Angelou’s "And Still I Rise" is featured on Maya Angelou’s official website.  After the death of her younger brother Ebony in 1998, Dr. Jenkins began to hear songs in her dreams, waking up singing them, and decided to share the songs with the world.

Dr. Jenkins is a compelling testament to her program's effectiveness. Over the past 25 years, she has faced multiple chronic conditions and devasting diagnoses, including Crohn's Disease, IBS, Discoid lupus, arthritis, and severe allergies.  Instead of taking medications for any of these diagnoses, Dr. Jenkins consulted with an herbalist and took a holistic approach that healed her body. Her healing journey involved fasting, a vegan diet, and other holistic methods. With a background in Biophysical Chemistry, faith, and personal experience, Dr. Jenkins is now a guide to help others on their transformative healing journey. Dr. Sharron Jenkins is a scientist, educator, and advocate who has turned her training and wealth of knowledge into the groundbreaking nutritional coaching program known as BioFit-360: The Metabolic Reset.

Dr. Jenkins’ Fasting Health Journey

From early childhood, it was clear that I had a sensitive system. As a baby, I was intolerant to milk, which concerned my mother and resulted in frequent doctor visits. During my teenage years, I discovered that I was allergic to nickel-containing jewelry and certain chemicals in nail polish, which led to severe reactions like my nails detaching from the skin. In my early 20s, I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease but had a severe reaction to the conventional medication available. Instead, I turned to an herbalist and underwent a 2-week "Master Cleanse," consisting solely of lemon water sweetened with grade A maple syrup. This regimen healed my gut issues completely. I also discovered that wheat was a trigger for my symptoms, prompting me to adopt a vegan, clean, and organic diet. This regimen kept me free from gut issues until a significant relapse in October of 2021.

My life took an unexpected and harrowing turn in October of 2021. Fresh from receiving the first booster shot for COVID-19, I found myself severely ill, trapped in a relentless cycle of gastric issues and debilitating back pain. Food became my enemy; even a morsel sent my gut into excruciating spasms. My suffering was so acute that I frequented emergency rooms, hospitals, and urgent care centers at least eight times over the next year and a half. The back pain was insufferable; my spine would spasm violently, rendering even the strongest painkillers like oxycodone ineffective.  Oxycodone made me so forgetful that one day I took two doses back to back, which I thought was near overdose, sending me into a frantic drive to urgent care to avert a potential toxic crisis. I was fine, but that was the last day of that drug!

At one point, one gastroenterologist diagnosed me with Crohn’s Disease; I had sores throughout my small bowels.  Each step of my journey was a tightrope walk between hope and despair. My family—my sister, brothers, and mother—rotated turns to fly to Atlanta, assisting me with basic movements from one room to another. My world shrank to agonizing episodes of pain, interrupted only by intermittent hospital visits, including a thorough but inconclusive stay at Emory (Atlanta) and Duke (Durham, NC) Hospital.

But even in the depths of this ordeal, a faint glimmer of relief emerged: fasting. While my family was away, and I was alone to nurse my deteriorating condition, I discovered that abstaining from food relieved some of my symptoms. I fasted for a few days, but the respite was short-lived. Once I resumed eating, another painful attack gripped me. It was during this nadir of despair, in a phone call with my brother Terence, that the direness of my situation became clear. He drove six hours that same day with our mother to pick me up and took me back to North Carolina, where I was admitted to Duke Hospital. Prior to being admitted to Duke, I had a very vivid dream of being taken up into what seemed like a ship where some “beings” put me through some type of surgery.  It seemed as though I was awake, but there was no pain.  When I woke up, I knew the back pain was gone.  I can’t explain this, but after that dream, I never had back pain again!  So, now the focus was healing my gut.

Once I was admitted to the hospital, my doctors at Duke were thorough but found nothing definitive. The sores in my small bowel, identified by my gastroenterologist earlier, had miraculously healed—likely a result of my weeks-long fasts and all the prayers for me. Fasting and praying became my sanctuary. With no clear medical solutions, I took nearly five months off work to heal.

The transformative change began when I adopted a holistic approach. Relying on a plant-based diet and intermittent fasting, I started to work with a naturopathic doctor.  Today, I'm not just surviving; I'm thriving, running 5K races, and living a life that's a testament to the possibilities of a holistic approach to health.  Before embarking on this healing journey, I was a lost soul in a labyrinth of endless suffering, diagnosed with discoid lupus, Crohn's disease, IBS, chronic headaches, and multiple autoimmune conditions. Now, I stand before you, not just as a living example of the transformative power of fasting and a clean diet, but as a guide to lead you through it.  Backed by my training in Biophysical Chemistry, my steadfast faith, and my personal experiences, I have unraveled the intricate 'how' behind the miraculous 'why.' If you're reading this, it means you're about to embark on a transformative journey through the realm of fasting—a journey that will open up a new world of potential for your health, just as it did for me.
